PACKAGING: 5/5

We were thrilled to see the plain white cardboard box and sensible cardboard insert packaging of the LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 LED light bulb. LED light bulb packaging should not be rocket science, but far too many companies get it wrong with non-recyclable packaging, mixed materials, or packaging that doesn’t properly protect the product. LEDnovation gets this right with a simple cardboard box and inserts.

Upon closer analysis, the bulb does have a small amount of play within the packaging that should be tightened up. We would also like to see a Lighting Facts label on the box, but LEDnovation does include a wealth of information on its packaging including stated efficiency and CRI. In the case of the LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 LED light bulb, that’s 86 lm/W and 94 CRI respectfully.

PHYSICAL PRODUCT: 5/5

With a dozen metal “claws” grasping a frosted polycarbonate “ball”, the LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 LED light bulb looks a bit like a modern version of a claw foot furniture leg. It’s a striking design that’s sure to get attention, but it’s also smartly shaped and colored (white on white) to mirror a traditional incandescent light bulb. It’s possible that some may object to the aesthetics of this bulb in an exposed setting, but we doubt it.

One clear advantage of the LEDnovation EnhanceLite claws and ball design is that light can pass around the relatively thin heat sink fins (the claws) to allow the bulb to be an omni-directional design. This is a good example of form following function.

In the hand the LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 LED light bulb feels solid with tight seams and no play between the lens, base, and screw. Somehow the seam that joins the top and bottom part of the lens “ball” look a little cheap, but nothing about the product suggests that this anything but a high quality LED light bulb. We are impressed.

If you like your light warm/pink, this bulb is by far the warmest/pink LED light bulb we’ve yet seen. Skin tones look gorgeous under this bulb and everything takes on a relaxed, natural, and welcoming warm/pink glow. Want to warm up your living room and make it feel more inviting? Put LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 bulbs in your table top lamps and A19 fixtures.

On the flip side, some will feel the light color from this bulb is too warm/pink. We went back and forth, sometimes absolutely loving the warm/pink aesthetic for its natural and inviting qualities, the next feeling it’s just too warm/pink. One of our reviewers said she would like this bulb in a bedroom. That’s the kind of light color we’re talking about; very warm, inviting, and natural.

Perhaps the most fascinating test we did was comparing this bulb in different settings against the Philips L-Prize (warm/yellow) and Honeywell Earthtronics HWL1A198301BIM (warm/white). You would think we painted the rooms different colors with each bulb in place. The Philips made our rooms look warm/yellow. The LEDnovation made our rooms look warm/pink. And the Honeywell seemed to be exactly what we thought the colors actually were. Of the three bulbs, there was no doubt that the LEDnovation made the rooms more relaxed and inviting.

WARRANTY:

The warranty for the LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 is 5 years.

CONCLUSION: 4/5

The LEDnovation EnhanceLite A19 really gave us trouble. For some, it will be the perfect bulb; warm/pink, natural, and inviting. What more could you ask for? Well, the next person might say it’s way too warm/pink and strongly dislike it.

After all was said and done, we’re giving this bulb four stars, but please read the above review carefully. If you don’t like warm/pink, look elsewhere. If you do, you’re in luck. The LEDnovation might be the perfect bulb for you.
