PACKAGING: 1/5

Above: The LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W LED light bulb packaging.

The good news is that the LG Lighting Innovator A19 7.5W LED light bulbs come in a high value two-pack.  The bad news is that the LG 7.5W light bulbs come in plastic blister packaging that requires scissors to cut the stiff and sharp plastic open.  Once we had cut the circumference of the LG 7.5W packaging, we needed to be careful to remove the bulbs without them spilling onto the ground.  LG scores no points with it’s packaging.

PHYSICAL PRODUCT: 5/5

Thankfully, the LG 7.5W LED bulbs are much better than the packaging that contained them.  The bulbs feature an attractive ice cream cone style design and a solid and high quality feel in the hand.  The shape and size of the LG 7.5W is nearly identical to a standard incandescent light bulb ensuring compatibility with most household lamps.

In all honestly, the look and design of the LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W LED light bulb is rather boring by LED light bulb standards.  Based on its relatively bland aesthetics, we cannot imagine anyone objecting to this bulb in their home.  The LG 7.5W is about as normal looking as it gets for LED light bulbs.

LIGHT PATTERN: 180 Degree Down Light

Left to right: LG 7.5W LED, 40 watt incandescent, 40 watt CFL

The LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W has a 180 degree light pattern making it suitable for downward light applications.  Due to the lack of omni-directional light, we do not recommend the LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W for table top lamps (as shown).

QUALITY OF LIGHT: 4/5

Left to right: LG 7.5W LED, 40 watt incandescent, 40 watt CFL

Placing the LG LED light bulb side-by-side with a 40 watt incandescent soft white light bulb, one thing is immediately apparent.  The LG bulb is a little cooler and grey in color than the incandescent, but it’s amazingly close.  If the color quality of the LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W LED light bulb is any indication of what’s to come, it won’t be long until the light color of LED bulbs are truly indistinguishable from incandescent light bulbs.  Nice work LG.

If you are looking for a table top lamp for reading, look elsewhere as this 180 degree bulb will light the walls and ceiling, but not your book, Kindle, or Nook.  If the lack of downward light is a deal breaker, the Philips Endura LED 409938 would be a better choice.

WARRANTY

The LG warranty on the LG 7.5W LED light bulb is three years.  This warranty term is in line with the 40 watt LED competition.

CONCLUSION: 4/5

If you’re in the market for a 40 watt equivalent 180 degree non-dimmable LED light bulb, the LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W LED light bulb is an excellent value.  For places where the lack of downward light would not be an issue, the LG Lighting Innovator 7.5W LED light bulb produced a warm light so close to the incandescent that most people would probably not see a difference.  Recommended.
